Netflix Payment Declined or Account on Hold (E101)? Which Cards Netflix Accepts, Prepaid and Virtual Cards, How to Update Payment, Cancel, Gift Cards, and Paying with a Prepaid Virtual Card (USDT / USDC) — 2026

Netflix payment declined, or "Your account is on hold" with error E101? What Netflix accepts (in the US: credit, debit and virtual cards, and Visa / Mastercard / Amex / Discover prepaid cards that support recurring e-commerce billing; elsewhere virtual cards only in select markets), current US prices, the official causes of a failed payment, how Netflix retries during the billing cycle, how to update the payment method or cancel, gift card rules, refunds, real charge data from our own cards (3 successful charges on 3 cards, including one in yen, no declines), and paying Netflix with a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC. Updated October 2026.

Short answer: Netflix bills monthly on the date you signed up and has no annual plans. In the US its help center says it accepts credit, debit and virtual cards, plus prepaid cards with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover logo, as long as the card supports recurring e-commerce payments; it also takes PayPal and gift cards. Outside the US the wording is narrower: virtual cards are accepted "in select markets". A declined payment puts the account on hold (error E101) when there is not enough money, the card has expired, the bank did not approve the monthly charge, or the details (including the US ZIP code) do not match the bank. Netflix retries during the billing cycle; update the card or balance and it charges again. If your local card is refused, a prepaid virtual card bought with USDT or USDC, such as Pink Card from pinkcard.cc, is one option.

Written by the Pink Card team (pinkcard.cc). Netflix rules and prices are taken from the Netflix Help Center (plans and pricing, payment methods, E101 / account on hold, updating payment, cancelling, gift cards, billing date) and the Netflix Terms of Use as of 2026-10-20 and may change; your account page shows what you will actually pay. Pink Card fees are those shown on the purchase page on 2026-10-20. Pink Card is not affiliated with Netflix.

What Netflix costs (US)

  • Standard with ads: $8.99 a month.
  • Standard: $19.99 a month.
  • Premium: $26.99 a month.
  • Extra member (someone outside your household): $7.99 a month with ads or $9.99 without; Standard allows 1, Premium up to 2.
  • Tax may be added depending on where you live. The Basic plan has been discontinued. Other countries are priced in local currency; in Japan, for example, Standard with ads is ¥890, Standard ¥1,590 and Premium ¥2,290 a month.
  • Billing is monthly from your sign-up date. If that day does not exist in a month (for example the 31st), you are billed on the last day of that month.

Which payment methods Netflix accepts

  • US: credit, debit and virtual cards with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover logos; the card must be enabled for recurring automatic e-commerce payments.
  • US prepaid cards: accepted with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover logos, if they support recurring e-commerce billing.
  • Outside the US (for example Canada): Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards and prepaid cards; virtual cards only "in select markets".
  • PayPal, Netflix gift cards and, in some countries, phone or TV partner billing.
  • A card issued outside your current country may need international or cross-border transactions enabled by your bank.
  • Some payment methods trigger a small temporary authorization to verify the card; it is usually released quickly, but your bank may show it as pending for a few business days.

Why Netflix declines a card (E101 / account on hold)

  1. Not enough money on the payment method.
  2. The card has expired or is no longer valid.
  3. Your bank or card issuer did not approve the monthly charge.
  4. The details given to Netflix do not match what the bank has on file. In the US this includes the billing ZIP code.
  5. The card is not enabled for recurring or e-commerce payments, or for foreign transactions.
  6. The message "This card is not supported in this territory" means Netflix does not accept that card where you are; use a different card or method.

Fix it in this order

  1. Check the card has enough balance for the plan price plus tax, and, on a prepaid card, about $1 for its per-transaction fee.
  2. Sign in at netflix.com, open the Manage payment info page, and click Update next to the payment method. Enter the card number, expiry, security code and billing address (including ZIP or postal code) exactly as the issuer has them, then Save.
  3. Or add another payment method on the same page. Netflix tries the charge again after you save.
  4. If it still fails, contact your bank or card issuer before trying again; repeated quick attempts make declines more likely.
  5. Netflix also retries failed payments periodically during the billing cycle on its own. Under its Terms of Use, access can be suspended until a valid payment method is charged.
If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play or a phone or TV partner, the payment method is managed there, not on netflix.com. Do not start a second subscription on another platform while the first is still active.

Cancel, refunds and gift cards

  • Cancel: Manage membership → Cancel → Finish Cancellation. You can watch until the end of the paid period. If the account is on hold, it closes immediately when you cancel. Your viewing activity and account details are kept for 24 months.
  • Refunds: the Terms of Use say payments are non-refundable and Netflix does not give refunds or credits for partial subscription periods or unused content.
  • Gift cards: redeem at netflix.com/redeem. A card bought in another country works if it is in the same currency as your Netflix bill. Gift cards do not expire, cannot be refunded or reloaded, and Netflix emails you 7 days before the balance runs out. They cannot be used when you are billed through Apple.

Our own Netflix charge data

We checked Netflix charges on our own cards. All three attempts succeeded, on three different cards, with no declines: $21.59 on 2026-04-29 (merchant NETFLIX.COM LOS GATOS), $9.75 on 2026-10-16 and ¥1,590 on 2026-10-20, which came to $10.28 on the card (merchant Netflix.com Los Gatos). The $9.75 charge matches the US Standard with ads price of $8.99 plus local sales tax; ¥1,590 is the Japanese Standard plan price. We cannot see which plan each customer chose. The two October charges were both on $50 cards. Three charges is a small sample, so we cannot promise every card or every month will pass.

Pay Netflix with a prepaid virtual card (USDT or USDC)

  1. Open pinkcard.cc/en and choose an amount: presets start at $110 ($110, $220, $500, $1000), or enter a custom amount from $100.
  2. Pay with USDT on BEP-20 (shown as BSC or BNB Smart Chain on most exchanges; network fee usually under $1) or ERC-20, or with USDC on ERC-20. Send exactly the amount shown, on exactly the network you picked.
  3. Enter your email twice. No account and no sign-up are needed.
  4. The card number, expiry, CVV and billing address arrive by email about 1–2 minutes after the payment confirms (check spam).
  5. On netflix.com, enter the card at sign-up or under Manage payment info, with the billing address and ZIP code from the email, and save once.
  6. Keep the balance above the next monthly charge. Top-ups of the same card usually arrive within about 30 minutes, and the number does not change, so Netflix keeps billing it.

How much to load (worked examples)

  • Standard with ads at $9.75 with tax: $9.75 + $1 per transaction + $2.50 monthly card fee = $13.25 a month, so a $110 card covers about eight months.
  • Standard at $19.99: $19.99 + $1 + $2.50 = $23.49 a month, about four months on a $110 card, before tax.
  • Premium at $26.99: $26.99 + $1 + $2.50 = $30.49 a month, about three months on a $110 card, before tax.
  • Billed in another currency: the charge is converted at the day’s rate (¥1,590 was $10.28 on our card), so keep about 5% extra.
  • Paying for a $110 card: ($110 + $10) × 1.03 = $123.60. Topping up $100 later: $5 + ($100 + $5) × 5% = $10.25 in fees, $110.25 in total.

Pink Card fees (as of 2026-10-20)

  • Card issuance: $10 one-time, plus a 3% service fee on (card amount + $10).
  • From the card balance after activation: $1 per transaction and $2.50 per month.
  • Failed authorizations are charged $1 too (at most 3 failed charges per card per month). Netflix retries failed payments, so fund the card or cancel before it runs dry.
  • Top-up of the same card: $5 plus 5% of (top-up amount + $5), usually on the card within about 30 minutes. Full fee table: pinkcard.cc/en/fees.
  • Once the card details are emailed, the order cannot be cancelled, so double-check your email address before paying.
Netflix prices and catalogs follow the country where you live; follow Netflix’s terms. Pink Card is a payment tool and does not replace complying with a service’s rules.

What does Netflix error E101 mean?

Your account is on hold because the last payment failed: not enough money, an expired card, the bank did not approve it, or the details do not match the bank. Update the payment method under Manage payment info and Netflix charges again.

Does Netflix retry a failed payment?

Yes. Netflix retries failed payments periodically during the billing cycle, and access can be suspended until a valid payment method is charged.

Does Netflix have an annual plan?

No. Netflix bills monthly on your sign-up date and does not offer annual, multi-month or lifetime memberships.

Can I get a Netflix refund?

Generally no. The Terms of Use say payments are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for partial periods. Cancel before the next billing date to avoid the next charge.

Can I pay Netflix with USDT?

Not directly. You can buy a prepaid virtual card with USDT (BEP-20 or ERC-20) or USDC (ERC-20) at pinkcard.cc and add it under Manage payment info on netflix.com.
